John Hickman is the Managing Director for the San Diego Division and has been with NewMark Merrill Companies since 2003. Since joining the firm, Mr. Hickman has been responsible for growing NewMark Merrill Companies’ portfolio of San Diego region shopping centers through acquisitions, management and new development. Mr. Hickman oversees the San Diego office with the objective of capitalizing on the growing San Diego region, including neighboring Southern Orange and Southern Riverside counties. Since 2003, the San Diego Division has grown to 16 centers totaling more than 2 million square feet.
Mr. Hickman has a BA in Economics from the University of California at San Diego and a Masters Degree in Finance from San Diego State University. A top producer with Flocke & Avoyer Commercial Real Estate for 17 years, Mr. Hickman was recognized as the Top Salesperson of the Year for the company nine times since 1990. Mr. Hickman has also twice received the Retail Deal-Maker of the Year Award from the San Diego County Commercial Association of Realtors. Mr. Hickman has been involved in several hundred transactions totaling more than $1 billion in retail sale and lease transactions.
Mr. Hickman is involved with several industry associations including NAIOP and ICSC. He lives in San Diego with his wife. He has two children who are both in college.
