From Employee to Owner
Patricia White spent a lifetime working in retail, but longed to own a grocery to bring quality foodstuffs to an underserved community. With the help of NewMark Merrill, she and her fiancé Neason Gill opened a Grocery Outlet Bargain Market franchise at Crenshaw Imperial Plaza in Inglewood, California in 2018.
“I’ve been doing this my whole life, so this was a no-brainer for me,” she said. “This is what I know.”
Landlord NewMark Merrill has provided support along the way, White said — “Anything we need, they’re on it” — even down to purchasing groceries to donate to local charities during the pandemic.
And White’s own family has benefited as well, as several members are working for the store.
